How long does it take by train from Brussels to Switzerland?

I'll be Brussels at the end of July and have three days that I'd love to use to take the train down near the Swiss Alps and then back. What train/route would you recommend and is it possible to do in that short period of time? Alli: Great answer and very helpful -- thanks!

  1. I dont know-but da@n your lucky...have a safe trip
  2. Sure go for it. I live in Zurich and went to Brussels for a weekend not long ago. It was about 8 hours; coming back I took a night train, took about 12. I'd recommend the night train to get the most time in Switzerland (obviously your other option for that would be to fly). Take the train Brussels to Paris, take the night train Paris to Chur, which is right in the Alps (near Davos and St Moritz)). Spend the day in that area...next day head west or a bit north (Valais or Uri)...third day you can stop in Lucerne if you want, or Montreux. The night train leaves Basel at 1:00 am to get to Brussels-Midi at 9:20. If that's too late, better to end your day in Geneva, but that's around 4 pm.
  3. The Alps are big, it really depends on the town you are travelling to. From Brussels to the Swiss border would take about 7 hours by train.
  4. train leaving at 7 a.m. arriving zurich after2 . more info on www.sncb.be
  5. There is a night direct train from Bruxelles Midi station to Zurich Hbf that took 8h 09. From Zurich you connect to all Switzerland. The timetables can be found at: http://plannerint.b-rail.be
