Brussels Questions
Brussels...? I'm thinking of studying in Brussels for a semester...Tell me what you know and think about this city ( PLS no answers like: it's the capital of europe..good beer..etc! that much i know!) Is the french they speak there the same as france's french? What are Brussels' citizens like? Are all the girls blondes? Are there nice parks? How are the museums? Is their royal family as crazy as the british royal family? Are there lots of concerts or rock shows with famous bands? Is it cheap to fly from there to other European major cities? What do u have to say about the Solvay Business School?
Can you recommend some inexpensive but good restaurants in Brussels and Amsterdam? I will be visiting Brussels and Amsterdam soon and would like to get the names of some good places to eat. We're on a budget so cheaper ones would be good but we'd rather eat nice food than cheap trash! It's our first trip so we don't know the area at all so places near the typical tourist spots would be good. Also recommendations on what to eat. I'd love to try some typical Belgian and Dutch dishes. In Amsterdam our hotel is quite central but in Brussels we will be in Upper Town, 5 miles from the airport. Thanks in advance!
How long does it take by train from Brussels to Switzerland? I'll be Brussels at the end of July and have three days that I'd love to use to take the train down near the Swiss Alps and then back. What train/route would you recommend and is it possible to do in that short period of time? Alli: Great answer and very helpful -- thanks!
What is the cost of living in Brussels compared to New York? My wife and I are moving to Brussels, and we are curious how expensive it is compared with New York. Specifically, if we earn $150,000 in New York, how will our lifestyle be in Brussels on 105,000 euro? Also, any idea how difficult it will be for my wife to secure a work visa? She is a licenced psychologist and speaks French and Dutch. Thanks!
Where should i buy my train ticket from Brussels to Amsterdam? At home in the USA or at the Brussels Midi rail station? Would it be cheaper if i waited and purchased the ticket in Europe, as opposed to here in the USA?

What will you rate the 3 options that the flight from Brussels to Los Angeles? There is no direct flight from Brussels to LA. I don’t want to fly to LA and lay over at the European airports nor the airports of New York and Chicago. My travel agency has just proposed 3 routes to me that I lay over in one airport and with one different airline company. Option 1, United Airline and lay over at Washington D.C.; option 2, Northwest and lay over at Detroit; option 3, Delta and lay over at Atlanta. Can someone kindly analyze these options by the quality of the service of the airport and the airline company? By combining these 2 factor and tell me what will you rate these 3 options and why. I appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance.

Does anybody know how to groom a Brussels Griffon? I have a 8 month old Brussels Griffon and I don't know the proper way to groom her face and the top of her head. I know that they are supposed to be hand stripped, but what about the beard and the hair around her eyes? Please help!
How can I store my baggage in Brussels for a week until I return? I'm traveling to Europe in a few weeks for a study abroad program. I'm flying into Brussels, Belgium and need to store my large baggage while I travel for a week before classes start. The website for the airport says there are storage lockers, but only quotes them for 24 hours. I'd like to be able to fly out of Brussels the same day I arrive, so would like to be able to store it near the airport, so I don't have to waste a lot of time searching for a place to store it. Has anyone had to store baggage while traveling in Europe? I'd rather not lug my huge bag full of everything I need for months around with me that first week. What did you do?
What are the going fees for a communications consultant working for an NGO in Brussels? I've been asked to work on a consulting basis with an NGO in Brussels. Having only worked in the private sector, where I earn €100/hour, I don't know how to structure my fees in this new setting. I'd like to be competitive, so any information about consulting fees and/or fee structures for consulting with NGOs in Brussels would be most appreciated. Thank you.

In Brussels or Belgum, what does it mean when a person winks at another? You know how different gestures mean different things in different countries, like silence being a greater compliment for a film in Japan than appplause, among other things. Now, does it mean something different when a person from Brussels or Belgum winks, as opposed to a a person from the US or Canada doing the same thing?

Attempting to housebreak a Brussels Griffon dog? We just bought a female Brussels Griffon dog today and we're trying to housebreak her. We purchased some of those puppy training pads, but she will not use them and insists to attempt going on the carpet, when we usually catch her and she quits. I know she needs to go because she ate a pouch of food about 4 hours ago, but I really don't want to let her go on the carpet. We've also tried taking her outside but she is scared to death of the outdoors. What should we do?
